Joy to the Earth Tree Farm Team
Rooted in Community, Sustained with Love
We (and the trees) can’t wait to celebrate this holiday with you. We love sharing the season with others who enjoy creating simple, impactful moments and movements. Collectively, our impact can create economic, social, and environmental benefits for future generations.
Founders and Farmers: Elizabeth Beak, Neil, Sachin, Sejal, and Magnolia (hound dog) live in Decatur, Georgia. As Metro-Atlanta area residents, we experience the joy of getting to live, work, play, and grow up in a “City in the Forest”. We enjoy hiking, paddling, biking, exploring, and helping steward the forest in and around Atlanta. Elizabeth is the lead farmer. Her roots are in environmental planning, agroecology, and sustainable food systems. She was the City of Atlanta’s Food Systems Planner on the AgLanta Urban Ag and Food Systems team. She spent a year working in Atlanta’s 65-acre old-growth Fernbank Forest and currently works with Trees Atlanta as the Adult Education Coordinator. We can’t wait to share the joy of the trees - with you this holiday.
Gratitude to our Grove of Mentors:
Special thanks to the Love is Love Cooperative Farm team for giving us a space plant on their farm and mentorship (REALLY); The Conservation Fund for helping Love is Love Cooperative Farm and others access and conserve land through their Working Farms Fund; (Ellijay Mushrooms for being the first to offer space!); the Global Growers Network for sharing their space for the first hub, mentorship and support from Maurice Small, Robby Astrove, and the Paideia Urban Farm team. Support from Davis Dunbar of Redbone Nurseries and Seth Hawkins with the Georgia Forestry Commission on growing these trees. Thanks to many members of the Trees Atlanta team for advice; thanks to UGA Extension, I am amazed by the resources you offer. Thanks to Heather and the Fernbank Forest team for their mentorship and the opportunity to work in a fantastic old-growth urban forest, and thanks to the Plywood team, cohorts, and Fiery Feather for supporting start-ups doing well. Thanks to Nourish Botanica, you inspire me to follow your dreams! Finally, special thanks to our friends and family and 2023 pilot Community Supported Foresters. Your feedback and love are huge.
